Surgery and Related Research
The purpose of the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related
Research is to promote researches on spine and spinal cord disorders
and to encourage exchanges of information among researchers, and
to contribute to the enhancement of human health by disclosing and
spreading the results of our researches and knowledge to the general
public. The Society was established in 1974 as the Society for Research

of the same year under the chairmanship of Prof. Torao Iwahara of
Keio University. The Society subsequently evolved into the Japanese

Message from The chairman of the board
of directors

|
This is to inform you that I have assumed the
administrative office of the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery
and Related Research as the chairman of the board of directors,
pursuant to the recommendation of the councilors and the board
of directors of the Society.
I perceive that the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related
Research is currently facing a host of problems.
I feel that whether the Society will be able to win the trust
of the Japanese people as a group of spine and spinal cord specialists
depends on how we can integrate two different types of orthopaedic
surgeons; 1) orthopaedic surgeons unique to Japan who are specialized
in spine and spinal cord surgery in a non-Western manner, and
2) orthopaedic surgeons who provide primary cares as the experts
of the musculoskeletal system (especailly the spine and the
spinal cord), into one. With the cooperation of our members,
I am hoping to demonstrate to the Japanese people our strong
commitment as spine and spinal cord specialist, to whom they
can count on.
I cordially beg for the guidance and support of the members
of the Society for my endeavors to fulfill my responsibilities
as the chairman of the board of directors.
